With the addition of soprano Kristina Mascher-Turner, Intermedii´s total of current or erstwhile French horn players climbed to four.  Born in Illinois, USA, Kristina began playing the horn and piano at age 10.  She went on to study horn at the University of Wisconsin, where she was also the youngest member of the UW Chamber Singers.  She then moved to Germany and earned her Orchestral and Soloist Diplomas from the Hanns Eisler Conservatory in Berlin.  Early in her career, Kristina was engaged as principal horn in various chamber orchestras in the United States and Germany. Particularly noteworthy were a series of tours she performed on first horn with the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra under the direction of Claudio Abbado, Pierre Boulez and Seiji Ozawa.

 

In 1999, Kristina was engaged in the Odense Symfoniorkester in Denmark and six months later assumed the position of Solo Horn with the Flemish Radio Orchestra in Brussels, with whom she has recorded and toured, and with whom she was recently featured in a special profile for Belgian television (VRT).  Kristina and her husband, fellow Intermedii member Kerry Turner, make up the Virtuoso Horn Duo, and as such, have performed concerts and given master classes around the world.  Now based in Luxembourg, Kristina is also a member of the brass quintet The Ni Ensemble, winner of the 9th International Brass Chamber Music Competition 2006 in Passau.

 

Kristina studied voice privately in Hamburg and Amsterdam with Peter Elkus and has sung solos in Hamburg, on the Odense Symphony Orchestra Chamber Music Series (Denmark), and most recently with the Chorale Saint-Michel of Luxembourg. 

 

In addition to her musical activities, Kristina trained with Don Alexander of Colchester, England, to become a Reiki master.  The point where music, healing, and spirituality come together has always fascinated her - all have in common the ability to bring a little more light into this world.

 

She's also been told that she makes a mean mushroom soup*.
