Chris Vigar MBE (bass) started singing at the age of seven as a Chorister at Lincoln Cathedral under Gordon Slater and sang there again as a adult under Philip Marshall. He was awarded a Choral exhibition at Exeter College, Oxford, where he also sang with, among others, the Schola Cantorum of Oxford under Nicholas Cleobury and the Clerkes of Oxenford under David Woolfson as well as several larger ensembles such as the Oxford Bach Choir.

After leaving Oxford, Chris returned to Lincoln for a few years before moving to London and studying under Arthur Reckless as a part-time student at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.  He has sung with a wide variety of groups across the country, including the Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields, the Brighton Festival Chorus, the Tallis Chamber Choir, the Corydon Singers and several touring choirs, performing in both full-scale operas and small a cappella groups (and everything in between) in many venues across Europe.  At the same time he satisfied his love of the English sacred choral tradition in the choirs of both St Mary Abbotts and St Mary’s Bourne Street.

Chris moved to Luxembourg at the beginning of 1991 and sang with the Ensemble Vocal du Luxembourg under Pierre Cao as well performing as soloist with Eurocantica and Vox under Dafydd Bullock. He was a founder member of Intermedii, having in the 1980s formed his own group in the UK, also called Intermedii and conducted by such as Peter Phillips, Neville Creed and Shane Fletcher.

Chris recently converted a beautiful farmhouse in Burgundy and has already organised several memorable concerts for Intermedii in Chevagny-sur-Guye (see past concerts page).  There is also a very promising barn whose life as a concert hall we hope to inaugurate one day.

Chris also hacks away at the piano and used to play the double bass and the timpani, but it became too heavy to carry them all, so now he just plays the piano*.

that's the one he can carry - ed.
